According to an article from CNBC, last year kitchen and remodeling services saw a 40 percent jump in demand, and home extensions and additions jumped 52 percent above the previous year. In a National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) report, three out of every four fires in structures under construction involved residential properties. - The leading factors contributing to the ignition of fires in structures under major renovation included electrical failures or malfunctions and heat sources too close to combustible materials.
- Arcing was the leading heat source in these fires, followed by a spark, ember, or flame from operating equipment, radiated or conducted heat from operating equipment, and unclassified heat from powered equipment.
