New Baltimore Community Learns About Smoke Alarms During Residential Fire Awareness Month?

10/7/2024 (Permalink)

A person replaces a battery in a smoke alarm. We are fire damage restoration leaders in Macomb County.

Our Mount Clemens and New Baltimore teams are trusted leaders in fire damage restoration services. Our technicians are trained and certified by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), the national certifying organization for the cleaning and restoration industries.

Every year the National Fire Protection Association launches a residential fire awareness campaign to educate the public about fire safety. This week the emphasis is on the importance of having working smoke alarms installed in every sleeping room of the house, and outside of every sleeping room and on every floor of the house. Here are the sounds smoke alarms make and what they mean:

  • A continued set of three loud beeps—beep, beep, beep—means smoke or fire. Get out, call 9-1-1, and stay out.
  • A single “chirp” every 30 or 60 seconds means the battery is low and must be changed.
  • All smoke alarms must be replaced after ten years.
  • Chirping that continues after the battery has been replaced means the alarm is at the end of its life and the unit must be replaced.
